Poll: Does your IT department use an IT Service Catalog? #ITIL

As part of our research into the use of IT Service Catalogs, we are looking for input from people across the world. Not from IT Professionals, but also from business people who purchase IT Services for their own use or their department.

Feel free to pass this on to as many friends and colleagues as you like - the more data we collect, the better it is!

ITIL experience book written by ITIL practitioners

Be Part of the Crowdsourced ITIL Experience Book - in just 10 Minutes of your time !

As ITIL users most of us have the following question going through our mind: "What do other people do with this ITIL Framework, why am I doing this course, am I the only one?"

We at The Art of Service see thousands of clients go through our eLearning programs, use our products and speak with most of you on a individual level.

These conversations got us thinking: Wouldn't it be cool if we can bundle all these experiences together into a book to learn from each other and share with others ourt there to help them grow?

We don't need long case studies - but it would be great if you share some of your experiences with the training, the ITIL Framework and the difference it has made for you.

You can share whatever you want: text or images. Just make sure it is original content and you own the right to any photos or images you wish to use.

What's in it for you?

Cool stuff:

  • As a reward, we'll include you as a co-author in the Book, which will be distributed globally on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and many others.
  • And...we'll send you a copy of the book to show (off) to your Mum and Dad ;-) !

Below are a number of questions to answer - It would be great if you could write approx. 300 words, that is easy to read for people. (to give you an idea: this frontpage has approx. 550 words)

theartofservice » Customer Service - Critical Elements of Customer Service

Jackie takes a closer look at our Personal Development & Management workshops. This week, she chats about the Customer Service workshop and how we can break down and examine our own attitudes and actions in order to understand what customer service is all about and how we can exceed customer expectations.

Listen Now:

A year old, but I still like the fact that we also deliver Personal Development education as part of our portfolio. After all - it is not enough to only focus on the ITIL processes or the ISO/IEC 20000 standard. Ultimately it is the people in the IT department who have to make this all happen and Customer Service is a basic skill that everybody should have...

ITIL V3 Foundation Feedback

"I have been very impressed from what I have seen verses other ITIL online courses that I had initially used in preparation for my ITIL v3 certification exam..

You can add to my comments that the tools provided by The Art of Service do an excellent job preparing the person for the exam (I passed with 95%).  But I also like the toolkit as it provides tools that will help to actually begin applying the knowledge gained into our way of providing services and the relevant phases for which my team is responsible.  I've already recommended your course to a handful of my co-workers."

ITIL credit profiler has been updated with the extra courses

The ITIL® Credit Profiler System

The ITIL V3 Qualification Scheme introduces a modular credit system for each of the V3 certifications. All modules are given a credit value, and candidates meeting the requisite entry criteria and accumulating the required number of credits (22) can apply for ITIL Expert level certification. Click here to learn more about the V3 Qualification Scheme.

Certifications from earlier ITIL versions (V1 and V2) are also recognized within the system, together with qualifications endorsed as complementary to the V3 qualification portfolio.

The purpose of the ITIL Credit Profiler is to advise ITIL candidates of the total credit value they have attained within the scheme and to provide general guidance on potential routes for further study based on candidate educational or certification objectives.

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: ITIL V3 Foundation Complete Certification Kit - 2009 Edition: Study Guide Book and Online Course

4.0 out of 5 stars The Book and the Course - Great Value!, August 11, 2009
I found this book to be a good value, especially when one considers it comes with on-line training at no extra cost! I have just completed both the book and the course, and I believe the combination of the two should simply be considered an extremely useful training package, not just a book.

The book:
The book itself simply does what it purports to do, i.e., prepare you for the ITIL v3 Foundation exam as it actually teaches you the fundamentals of the ITIL. I've not taken the exam, yet; however, I have no doubt I'm well prepared for it. I did get frustrated over several typographical errors. These are distracting at most and do not take away from the book's usefulness. I did find one question, too, that I'm sure has the wrong answer attributed to it. I could have cleared that up with The Art of Service, but I considered it of little consequence, anyway.

The On-Line Course:
I chose to take the on-line course, which is really a series of narrated slide presentations, after studying the book. In that way, the course served as a review of the material, and I did find it easy to follow along, with some exceptions as discussed below. I also liked the fact that I could stop the presentation at any time and take notes, review the book, etc. I did find a few useful diagrams and even a complete chapter presented in the on-line course that do not exist in the book. An example: The final on-line chapter is "Supporting Tools and Technology", which is not in the book. I have no idea if this is even relevant to the exam; however, it really just means you should definitely take advantage of the on-line course.

So why not five stars? The typos, missing information, and also I was a bit annoyed that the on-line presentation of material within some chapters was often presented in a completely different order than it was in the book. It made following along rather confusing at times. The quality of some of the diagrams in the book and the way they attempted to present the information were rather amateurish at best, downright confusing at worst and difficult to interpret. For me, they sometimes slowed me down as I sat there trying to figure out what they were trying to show. It also appeared they were made for color presenations but reproduced in black and white. Shaded coding of the material just didn't work very well, but color certainly would have! Maybe I'm just slow, but good graphics should be more self-explanatory than that! Still four stars because the whole package works and works well.

Bottom Line:
Based on my experiences, thus far, and other reviews, I would have to say this was a good choice for me, and I have no doubt that I am prepared to take the exam and proceed further down the road to other ITIL certifications.

WOW - every time I read reviews like this I go quiet... isn't it amazing when people love your product so much?

I am very proud of the team at The Art of Service who created this product (and are already working on the 3rd version which incorporates all client feedback and ideas for improvement)

GO TEAM!
:-)
